Got seriously spooked seeing our January revenue…even after improving the breakfast, deep cleaning entire hotel, new locks, and upgrading marketing (before major renovations start)
A 62% drop YoY is never great, but we keep going.

We need your advice again gang!! Renovations are due to start in Feb, and I’m still unsure as to what we should do with our outside patio space in Winterset.
The patio in Chariton is an amazing space, not just because it’s huge and has multiple things to do, but because it acts as a great attraction for potential guests passing by.
In Winterset, we don’t have either of those benefits…No main road by the hotel, and not a ton of space to work with.
I’m thinking under our canopy to have a seating area, a putt golf strip down the side of the hotel, a fire pit, and BBQ. What do y’all think??

Too soon? Nah, the verdict is in, people don’t care about chain hotels 🏆 Our guests just want a super clean room, amazingly friendly team, and a great value.
The lead up to May last year was tough…operating as a ghost hotel until we could officially launch as Hotel Pommier, but once we did, our community and guests showed up!!
But remember revenue does not equal profit!

Just because you have duct tape, doesn’t mean you use it for this! And how many guest wifi networks do ya’ll need!? I’d say 1, but this motel was going the extra mile with 4 random options (only 1 worked!).
First two months have felt like a whirlwind but we are knocking out improvements every day.
My biggest pet peeve was how the wifi, security camera, and phone equipment was sprawled all over the top shelf. Super dusty mess of cables. And a power strip literally plugged into another power strip 💀.
Will do a final dress up at the end, but cables are better organized on a rack all plugged into a battery backup. We slashed our insane phone bill by porting the number and getting rid of so many unused lines. Both dryers will be scrapped and the brand new one should come around Feb. I want to conserve cash by holding off on the 2nd dryer until we get busy. And our team has hit the ground running in their new roles!

Now we venture into the unknown. My family had experience running two hotels, my mom ran one and my dad ran the other. But with them fully retired (and finally vacationing!) this will be the first time we manage 3 locations. Not only that, but all of them (soon to be) operating as our own brand: Hotel Pommier
So many other wins that happened throughout the year, from retaining and growing our awesome team to overcoming roadblocks during the Chariton renovation.

What do you think of the rooms and what should we do? 🤷♂️ I don’t want our new rooms to look like a hospital, but the grey flooring is BRAND NEW so I didn’t budget to replace it.
The 1st flr is LVT and 2nd is carpet. We want to blend our Hotel Pommier style (modern, welcoming, and clean) with the character of Madison county (epic historical covered bridges, rolling prairies, John Wayne, etc.).

I’ve never bought a hotel before, let alone one that didn’t have any employees. The manager lived onsite and was going to leave as soon as we took over. So how did we hire employees for a business we didn’t even own yet? Honestly I’m not sure but our Manager Kate is awesome and we have a good track record taking care of our team.
